TMR ICO Assigns Dodgy Roadworthy Taskforce

TMR ICO Assigns Dodgy Roadworthy ICO Taskforce to clean the industry up as they believe there are examiner's still issuing roadworthys without inspecting the vehicle. They gave The Roadworthy Review the following statement -

Dear AIS scheme members

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has undertaken an analysis of inspection certificates issued by Approved Inspection Stations (AISs) across Queensland in the last 12 months using the Inspection Certificate Online (ICO) system.

TMR has identified that vehicle safety certificates have been and may still be, being issued by AISs without conducting an appropriate physical inspection of the vehicle. These certificates are not compliant, and this practice poses a road safety risk to Queensland road users.

In response TMR is establishing a dedicated taskforce with a focus on AISs and approved examiners (AEs) that have issued certificates in this manner and will be working with Queensland Police Service to address the issue.

AIS scheme members are reminded that they must comply with the Business Rules for Approved Inspection Stations and the vehicle inspection requirements as listed in the Vehicle Inspection Manuals as well as the Transport Operation (Road Use Management – Vehicle Standards and Safety) Regulation 2021 and the Transport Operations (Road Use Management – Accreditation and Other Provisions) Regulation 2015.

TMR recognises the majority of AIS scheme members apply compliant practices, however serious consequences will be imposed on those AIS scheme members which have and continue to issue non-compliant safety certificates. Where AIS scheme members have not issued compliant certificates, their accreditation may be suspended or cancelled, and they may be further prosecuted.

Regards
